Remember

August 1, 2018·Desiree Wilson

I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember Your miracles of long ago. I will consider all Your works and meditate on all Your mighty deeds. Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God? You are the God who performs miracles; You display Your power among the peoples. With Your mighty arm You redeemed Your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.
— Psalm 77:11-15

In the face of hard circumstances, I have the tendency to become anxious and fearful. I begin remembering and processing every aspect of the problem I face. I try to analyze the situation and find the quickest solution. My mind runs wild, replaying the incident and dwelling on the problem. I get stuck looking down at my circumstance.

I love this passage, because it shows us how to get out of this anxiety trap we can easily fall into when facing difficult situations. It reminds us to REMEMBER that we serve the God of miracles. The word remember means “to bring to mind, to think of again.” We must make the conscious decision to be aware of our thoughts and choose to remember the God of miracles. The God who faithfully and mightily works on our behalf, over and over and over and over again, as He has for all human history! God is truly a good God and does miracles to display His love and power in the midst of our most troubling circumstances.

The next time you face a difficult situation, don’t get lost in the darkness of the fear and anxiety that can creep in when we focus on our problems. Instead, pause and choose to remember who God is. Trust in His faithfulness and the wondrous works He does for YOU. Remember that He is the God of miracles! Remember His extravagant love for you. Remember that He is working on your behalf; He will fight this battle for you. Remember that there is no one and no thing greater or stronger than our God. Remember that you are not alone, the God of miracles is right by your side, every moment of every day!
