Rise Up, Church

April 22, 2020·Carolina Majors

In times like this, we can so easily retreat… retreat for our own personal reasons, our own fears, our own problems in the midst of our situation. But God is calling us to RISE UP as a church! He is calling us to be Jesus to our neighbors, to be light in the midst of great darkness for His people! It’s not just the pastors of our church, or certain people in leadership, who are responsible for reaching our community. But it’s the job of God’s people, you who He has called by name, to RISE UP and be His disciples. It’s every single one of us!

In Matthew 20:26-28, Jesus taught His disciples about serving others when He said to them, “Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave — just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many” (NIV). The greatest act of servanthood that mankind could ever have experienced was Jesus laying down His life for us. Now, He’s asking you to humble yourself, put yourself last, and go serve. Not to think highly of yourself, but to live His example of great love.

The God of Abraham, who called His people out of Egypt, is calling us out. He is calling us to His lost sheep, those hurting and broken!

You might think there’s not a lot you can do during this time, since you’re quarantined. May I challenge you to get on your face before God and ask Him how you can be of service… a simple act of kindness, a simple call to a church member or friend, a prayer for your neighbor can change a life!

God, Creator of all things good, remind Your people that You can create life and beauty out of nothing, give us the love and wisdom to serve people well during this hard time. You are faithful, and we humbly come to You and ask You to use us to bring people to Your truth. Amen.

Be blessed church…
