Some GREAT News!

“They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.”

— Psalm 112:7-8 (NIV)

“They will have no fear of bad news.” Wow. I don’t know about you, but when I read that, there was no doubt in my mind that it was a word just for me. I certainly have been having a “fear of bad news” lately. It seems as if there is a new catastrophic event we hear about every day, to the point where it can become very daunting and feel insurmountable.

In other translations, the words “established” (KJV) and “confident” (CSB) are used when referring to the hearts of those who trust in the Lord.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t felt very established or confident lately. But thankfully, the Word of God reminds us that we don’t have to be confident or established of our own power (nor is it possible), but that our trust (confidently relying on and believing) in the Lord is what will get us through. The Lord is gracious to us and extends His confidence, establishing us in Him, even though we’ve become overwhelmed and have doubted.

While our current situation may feel like it will last forever, it won’t, it will pass. What is forever is the Lord’s faithfulness. How amazing it is to know, that even though it may feel like we have all the reasons to worry and live in fear of the latest news, our hearts can be steadfast (firm and unwavering) in the Lord, no matter what the news may be. May we hold tightly to the truth that no matter what may come, our hope and trust is in the Lord, and He is faithful.

Now that’s great news!

“For great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.”

— Psalm 117:2 (NIV)
