Waiting and Trusting in the Lord

May 30, 2018·Brittany McIntire

“We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.” – Psalm 33:20-22

In many things, we need to wait patiently on the Lord’s plan. While this isn’t always the easiest thing for us to do, it’s in this waiting time that we are able to grow closer to God and hear His voice. Through this, the Lord strengthens us. As it says in Isaiah 40:31, “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

We are blessed to have God, the Creator of heaven and earth, as our help and our shield. When we feel down and out, we have a Father who not only comes in and picks us up, but will stand over and protect us from the things that may come against us.

Since God is our help and our shield, we can fully trust in Him and His plans for us. This scripture says, “our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name.” Trusting can be difficult and challenging. That’s been true in my life, and I’ve been reminded of Psalm 46:10, where it says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” I trust in the God of the universe.

It’s both humbling and freeing to take the weight of everything off your shoulders and be still in God’s presence. I encourage you to take some time to pray and see what difficulties and struggles you can turn over to the Lord and trust in Him.
